I'm trying to build a 2 section flatbar that is somewhat transportable. Mainly because I've yet to find that "perfect secluded spot" and I can't have a permanent one on my lake.

Im thinking 16ft (two 8ft sections) would be good and maybe later making one into an incline to have a short incline to flat set up?

I was looking at Chris Barcellos' site and their little set up in the Delta and it looked really fun but I know that was at least 25 ft. Should I go two-wide with the Trex? I know this will make it heavier.

I've seen some pics of the metal poles instead of the 4x4..I just want the easiest transportable set up possible.

Has anyone made a setup where they are able to detach the top from the support poles?.. Also, what size piece do you guys use under the Trex?

Anyways, Im just brainstorming and throwing out ideas before I start cuttin and drillin, so any help would be sweet.

Well I've read like every thread in here and have seen a million different options.

Im still confused on how this works:

If the post is in that clamp.. how does that mount in the center/bottom of the rail..? If anyone has this set up and can take a picture of the bottom/how you mounted it, that would be awesome.

lake tarpon, I've made a few rails, but the one you saw was probably the 16 ft flatbar. it was big and bulky but it worked well for a rail that wasn't built into the ground. We did have to weight it down since it wanted to float away. I've made them both with one and two trex wide tops. Double wide is nice for guys/girls who are trying out rails for the first time. My favorite rail that i've built so far (ride5's design) is a double wide that uses 4x4's that are pounded into the ground.

the rail is build with three 2x4s under the trex in this shape ]| the 4x4s fit into it like this ==]|

] = three 4x4s in that shape, and the == = 4x4 and the | is the trex. does that make sense?

Chris Barcellos, yeah that makes sense.. thanks a lot i'll probably use the 2x4 setup.. also, how long are those trex pieces on that rail?

lake tarpon, flip that clamp upside down from the way it is shown in the picture and you can attach the wood to the flat surface.

4 of these (Get 1", not 1/2")

With 4 eight-foot long of these

Attached like this on the underside of the wood.

Plus two of these (8 ft. each)

And two 8 footers of these (2x6)

equals

ok so i got the EVERYTHING BUT the 8ft poles.. i got the flanges, wood, and trex. they had 10 ft poles at home depot but i didn't feel like cutting them so i guess i'll check lowes first..

che blanc, were your poles slanted in the ground to make the incline? i can't really tell from that view.. just wondering because i would think they would be if the flanges were mounted flat on the bottom of the 2x6..

lake tarpon, you shoulda got the 10 ft poles, hey work good too. we put the poles in straight and used little 4x4 wedges cut at 10 degree angles to get the incline and matched that angle with how far we pounded in the poles.

rip

Yo che blanc is that rail easy to to pull in and out of the water?

The people on my lake have no problem killing every animal in sight (typical redneck canadians) but when I put a rail in a remote area they go wild and accuse me of ruining fish habitat and stuff. Im thinking your design might be my solution as long as its easy to put in and out, and is sturdy enough

s34n, Plenty sturdy and I pulled the rail out by myself when we were done there.

urinal mint, A piece of 4x4 that is like an inch tall on one side and slopes down to almost nothing on the other. Like an angled shim.

Andy, the incline is 16ft long.. two 8 foot sections

Nick.. how exactly are you setting yours up? poles in first with the flanges already attached to the wedges? We were having a hell of a time getting the poles to thread with the flanges after they were in the ground..

the posts are just galvanized steel found in the plumbing section of home depot or lowes.. the brackets are in the same section called 1" flanges. the poles are like 17 bucks a peice for 10 footers and the flanges are like 3 bucks a peice..
