what do u guys usually use to keep the winch from falling forward from deep water starts

Some people stake them into the ground (eye hooks attached to frame).. but that's been known to fail... best bet is trailer hitch.. or some tie-downs and strap her to a tree..

the new kid, We have a big metal stake, like the kind you would use for a game of horseshoes and a motorcycle tie down. Works like a charm.

ive had my winch go in the lake twice on just stakes

i usually try to do one of these things, in this order:

1. leave it in the hitch receiver.

2. strap it to a tree with tie downs or tow straps.

3. wedge it behind a tree/stump/rock/sign/etc... + stand/sit on back of winch

4. put something infront of the wheels and put a couple people on the back of the winch.

ive never had my winch try to "run away" from me. just be careful.

I happened to find mine at my parents house, make sure you use a mini sledge or something to put them into the ground. Gotta put a little muscle into that shizzle!

rocks work too, like big gangsta a$s rocks, they are easy to find when you are winching a rock quarry.
