Hey shredders,

I brought some of my Florida friends out to Hawaii for a little beach winching adventure, and I made a video with the clips we got. Hope you like it! Mr T

(warning: there are a few wakeboard clips, but I think he gets a pass Shocked )

So awesome nick! One thing I've really learned to appreciate and become envious of, is how you use your rails. Your surfing influence really shines through, and nobody else has that level of control.

Also, it would have been nice to see you get that cover!

Epic! But how does nick not get that cover shot? Or even grubb? So much more legit doing that on a wakeskate, even a little shuv in there.

i tend to agree with that comment. I'm not trying to say any of this is easy, but parks got pummeled after that barrel. It wasn't a make. I don't even think his alliance cover is that dope. But who am I anyway! Just a voice on the webz.

electricsnow, I think that's the point that he got pummeled. It's called Shorepound, which is describing that they are winching a break that is essentially a death trap. Just getting in there from my perspective is a make. Also it's not uncommon for surf videos and surf culture to use misses and bails in videos and mags. The surf barrel is just a different animal; I don't think it is fair to treat it the same way as a shot of someone hitting a winch drop or going wake to wake.

That all being said, I'm always rooting for wakeskating to get a cover. And i'm never not pulling for Nick to get a cover. Fingers crossed he gets a WBM mag cover next year.

The video was sick Nick!

I love surfing, but don't surf (yet) and have no idea on media standards. I'm more familiar with snow and skate, where it's atypical to use a miss for a cover shot. Maybe it's my wakeskate bias, but I would have preferred one of nick's slashes over anything else.

electricsnow, I don’t think it’s normal to make a miss a cover, but like I was saying before I was saying before I don’t think I personally would put that particular criteria on this barrel photo thoigh, but I understand the perspective and definitely have mixed feelings about the cover. I agree on wanting Nick getting that cover though for sure .

Sitting on the back deck of the O'Neill house on a clear starry night in Pupukea many years ago, a leather-jacket-clad Christian Fletcher exhaled & shared some old hard-earned surf wisdom with me: "If you make it out of the barrel, you weren't deep enough"

Smash Smash Smash

I think Parks' WBM cover shot was fkking rad, one of the sickest Wake mag covers of all time. I fully understand the stigma against having an un-landed maneuver published in a magazine (especially on the cover), but like Andrew was saying, barrels are a different animal & their appeal isn't strictly limited to riding away. There's a certain aspect of barrel-riding, particularly when shorepound is concerned, that places value on pulling in & committing to the tube ride, regardless of the likelihood of making it through, and often directly in spite of those bleak odds. Making it out of the barrel is cool, but pulling in to a thick-slabbing monster that promises to swallow you whole is fkking rad... As much as I would've loved to see myself standing tall in a blue cylinder on the cover of WBM, Parks is an absolute barrel hound & he was consistently getting more pitted on that trip than Grubb or myself, to which the photos certainly attest. Not that the cover game is a meritocracy, but he fully deserved it. The photo that ended up on the front still has me frothing =P

I've already begun planning this year's trip with the boys, I think Grubb's gonna come crash on my couch for a month on Maui, and we've already started bugging JOB to make sure we can borrow his winch when we get back over to Oahu Laughing I'm glad everyone liked the video...

=)

Damn NT's modesty and storytelling is great. Love the modest attitude seriously an admirable person,, wish i could support this dude more,, will always be my favorite skater,, Smash Smash Smash Smash

also fletchers words of wisdom sure put things in perspective,, and props to parks for getting pitted so many times,,,and props to nick for helping get one of the most legendary wakeboard mag covers of all time,,

shizzle looked super dicey, damn the more times i watch this video the gnarlier it seems

p.s. also enjoyed the bootys and the slash at 2:14 was even more enjoyable then the bootys

Nick, can you please start a YouTube vlog?

I watch way too many fishing videos everyday and keep up with them - I need a wakeskate vlog and someone to watch and keep up with.

You could make those YouTube dollars and entertain me all at the same time. Smash Birthday
