Im not very familiar with small boats and engine ratings. Can you get away with having bigger engine than its motor rating. My question is will a 14 jon/skiff with a 15hp motor pull me with 2 people in the boat. Or do I need more?

you need a bigger motor

atleast 25+ Hp

I have a 16 x 5 flatbottom with a 30hp and i can pull a large rider with 4 ppl in the boat, two dogs, and all the extra skates and 5gallon spare tank

15hp was pretty tough getting me out of the water with only the driver in the boat (carolina skiff j14 hull) back in the day. Led to lots of frustration when I was first learning to skate.

just get a 40 and youll never have to worry about it. I had a 40 on my 13ft and it was solid. if they rider was over 200+ lbs it was kinda rough, and took a while to plane off if there was no1 up front

You deffinanty need a bigger motor for riding. If you go over your motor rating though your boat insurance can drop you. Or somethin like that, dont quote me on that.
