I'm looking at getting a camera to do some wakeskating photography as well as video. I'm not looking for a top of the line camera but something that will shoot hd video as well as take a decent picture without breaking the bank. What would you guys reccomend? Thanks.

GoPro definitely for video. Any model of the Hero 3 will work.

I shoot with a nikon, cool thing about them is that their lens mount hasn't changed so you can still use old manual lenses that are dirt cheap.

completely dependent on your budget, but any of the d5xxx series would probably be your best bet, an 18-105 is a good starting lens too

Just to be fair, the t3i was competing against the d5100, the d5000 was the generation before.

BryceBell, Nice! It really depends what you're planning on shooting and how you want to shoot it. A good place to start is with the kit lens that usually comes with that camera an 18-55 get to know how that feels than go from there.
