[1] New Van
Bit of a backstory. I was never expecting my daughter to live until the age she is now, 7. We were given a year. Everyday I was waiting for the other shoe to drop and just waiting for the day when it was time for me to say good bye. As time passed, there were many close calls and yet, here she still is my little fighter.
She cannot walk or talk or even crawl (although she is starting to learn to feed herself and she laughs and laughs all day long). My practical mind started to set in and I knew I would have to start looking for things for her to make her life easier. One of which being a wheelchair accessible van. So, I took a look on kijiji and found one open to offers, so I emailed him and asked him what he thought because I had no idea what I should be offering. I mean they can get ridiculously expensive but it was used so...no clue. He emailed me back and asked me to call him. So I did.
We talked, he asked some questions about my situation and my daughter. He said he could drive it out here because he would be in my area today. That he had a good deal for me. I expressed my gratitude but told him I would need to speak with my husband first (I mean buying a car and all......the money, did we have it even etc). He said that he didn't think I would need to talk to him about it and how did a dollar sound. I literally started stuttering and simultaneously sobbing. I couldn't believe what he was offering. He explained that his wife had MS and while she did not die of MS (she actually died in a housefire 7 weeks ago and he was first on scene) that this is what she would have wanted. They had been married for 40 years.
Lo and behold, he delivered the van today. It was emotional. We were both crying. you could see the pain and love in his eyes. He was happy to help a child.....he has grandkids. He met my daughter, we did up the paperwork and, it's now sitting in front of my house. His daughter was picking him up at the corner store. I offered obviously to drive him but he said no, he needed the walk to clear his head. He pattted the van twice as he walked away. I don't even know what I'm feeling right now. Eternal gratitude, sadness at what has come to pass to make this possible for my family....I'm still in shock.
This one huge gift has completely restored my faith in humanity. That's my story.....what's yours?
