Let me start by saying I'm not trying to start arguments but I just don't understand obscura.
I love how in the tiny world of wakeskating there's no lack of independent companies like remote, WM, integ/mutiny, new, sprocket and so on. I hate liquid force because of what Tony Finn did to Justin stephens and company wakeboards. I feel like obscura is just a name to make the uneducated skaters think they are supporting an independent company.
Ive always heard Arron and Danny are stand up guys and I don't doubt this. But why would the promote and sell a product that they know is a piece of shizzle. I'm talking about their wood decks here not the sst. I love the sst!!! I'd expect LF to sell a crappy product just to make money but I woulda thought that Arron and Danny would not want a crap product on their line for obscuras sake and for the sake of our sport going in it's own direction. Danny even kinda hints in his transworld article that he knows there's reliability issues on some of the product.
It just seems unfair. Imagine sum kid that looks up to these two as his fav riders so he works and saves his money to buy what his heroes ride and first time out his new pride and joy breaks. Then LF tells him sorry, can't warranty it for you. If they want to act like an independent brand then they should only sell quality product like the rest of the Indy skate brands. I've now heard of two cases where people got an obscura wood deck and put on a couple of layers of sealant on the board b4 it even touched water and they still get water logged and split in the first few sessions.
I know that no wood deck last forever but this is rediculous!!! I've come to expect this shizzle from LF but I'm realy surprised that Dan and freedom allow there names to b associated with such a crappy product.
I no longer hold obscura high on my list of quality wakeskate companys.
I also noticed in dannys pro spotlight in the pic of him hitting a kicker/gap/to flat box that he's riding what I think is the non obscura LF mod. I found it weird that he chose a skate that's not part of his own company. I see it as a testament to how shiznackle their wood decks realy are!!!
Again, I'm not trying to piss anyone off; I just see a big problem in our wakesk8 industry and think that people should demand more from obscura.

Aaron is one of the raddest dudes I've had the pleasure to meet and talk with.

I feel like no one is trying to hide the fact liquid force and obscura are under the same umbrella, same for Byerly and Hyperlite.

LF has provided Aaron and Danny so much opportunity I don't see why they would leave. Every LF wakeboard event I've been to, they dragged along Danny and Aaron and let them make something happen for wakeskating during their wakeboard events.

It seems that all they would have to do is change to a better manufacturer for this one product line and all would be well. Would it realy be that hard for them to have new, or moonshine, or hell even sprocket mfg these board for um?
Any insight; Positive or not, Into this topic will be appriciated.

Thanks, Joe Jones

I don't think they need to leave LF. Hell they've both been with LF since the beggining of their careers through cassett. I just think that two legends of this sport shouldn't associate their creation (obscura) with a piece of junk product. If not for the betterment of the sport then at least to better their own company and own interest.

I dont think that any of these guys could pump out decks fast enough for LF.

this is pretty good right here, and danny's not so bad himself. Also, I was informed awhile back that those guys actually own obscura and have a similar licensing deal going on with LF.

also, we really don't know why danny was riding that mod. Maybe that's what worked best for that funbox type thing. Ultimately, I don't know that it's that big of a deal.

I actually don't recall danny hinting at reliability issues, but more that "core dudes" might not respond the same way to what they're doing with LF due to perspectives (or a lack thereof).

Finally, I don't think there's any secret about obscura and lf and relationships, blah blah blah. They praise LF highly and almost every product has obscura/lf dual branding. They seem grateful for the opportunity, regardless of how some are going to judge their chosen path.

and since this was mentioned in that profile (which was excellent, by the way), here's a link to danny's first breath video part.

Well they are not gonna need to many wood decks since everyone that's tried a previous deck knows not to buy one. It seems to be common knowlege in our lil world that these suck!!!

I can't comment on the durability, out side of that I know they want a decent deck that's also affordable. those are age old ideals in wakeskating and they still want to carry those forward.

but I think what danny made obvious is that they aren't just appealing to "our little world." they're still trying to reach out to grow the brand and wakeskating.

So many of these independent companies stick out a load of hype but do not have an infrastructure or start capital to meet demand. That's why they are always in short supply and if you live outside of the US its a big deal to get one. Then if it breaks you're pretty much on your own anyway.

At least with the way Obscura have it they can put r&d into skates and build hype like any other independent yet still actually deliver to their customers.

I can get two impulses for the same price of a remote, they are in my local shop as opposed to US, or French grey import, if i do break it i'm more likely to get a warranty and i know from experience the remote won't last that long either.

Saying all that I ride an integrity so don't have to worry about all this anyway Razz

I'm so impressed that this thread actually did not become some slam session on each other. Props to you guys. I thought bamalurker was right on. But it is what it is.

ur last post have a certain disdain about them for starting this thread with ur beginning comments of no arguments...

i do agree with you on much of what you have said about obscuras quality, but as far as danny riding the MOD, to me that would just be like Ben Horan wearing a pair of Nike SB shoes to ride in. Well they arent Nike 6.0, so what. same company, different sect of it, but still same company. its not like danny was riding an integrity...

again tho, ive heard much to say negatively towards the durability of an Impulse. so i'm quite split down the middle on the subject.
