Im 225 and I wanted to know what the best size engine would be for me and if you can get a winch for 1000 or under.

I've been using Honda 6.5 engines and never had a problem deep water starting any of my friends. It's all in the gear ratio and inner spool diameter. As far as 1000 winch I've never seen one sold for that cheap but I also haven't priced winches since like 06. I'm sure you could build one for that though.

Bamalurker, what have you found out to be the best gear ratio for your 6.5's?

Splitphire, I weigh about 200, and I ride a small board. I have found that horsepower does matter. Although you can get away with it, I have found the 6.5 to be underpowered. I like the yankmeister. My buddies have one and it has never let us down. Lots of power and quality build. Also the most affordable I have found, but it's going to cost you more than $1000. If you look around you can get a winch for around that price, but it wont be top of the line. If you have some mechanical inclination, you could build one for around $1000 that would be legit.

Phoenix Winch makes one for around a grand. Looks really solid. They can make it to your specs. Look into them. Seem to be a really cool company and group of guys.
