| Quote: | | Is the recent explosion of cable parks helping wakeskating grow in a positive way? |
The biggest obstacle for the growth of wakeskating (or wakeboarding, for that matter) is economics. This has been, by far, the most significant obstacle since day one. Behind a boat or even a jet ski, wakeskating is extremely UN-affordable. I am fortunate enough to own a Nautique from the 1980s and be able to put gas into it anytime I want to ride. My setup pales in comparison to the current market ($45k is entry level??). Regardless, even my setup is out of reach for many people. If you're a 12 year old kid, it is exponentially easier (and realistic) to go buy a skateboard or pay for a lift ticket than expect your parents to invest thousands upon thousand of dollars into a "hobby".
We need cable parks. LOTS of them. And they need to promote and encourage wakeskating very heavily. Cable parks have been "exploding" in the US over the past few years. Yet the amount we have is laughable in comparison to Germany alone.
Wakeskating needs to be affordable. Period. Otherwise it will continue to be a niche sport for the affluent and/or extremely dedicated. |

I think you're very right SCBRips. My dad wouldn't even buy a bayliner, and in 1996 I thought that would be a sweet boat for wakeboarding.
The one thing wakeskating has though is john boats. I feel that cost might be comparable(ish) to buying a season pass at a good mountain. But it's still not a solitary activity. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

I LOVE THIS IDEA! if you get a kid on a wakeskate once we all know they will be hooked and do everything they can to find that thrill of riding a board across water again. fastgreens, cheapskate, and I were shredding one day and saw these kids on the bank yelling and waving their arms at us riding. after the set we stopped and just threw a skate to the kid and said come on get up! i think the kid got up first or second try and he was completely hooked, it made me smile more watching his stoke than anything else that day. |

I hope that wakeskating stays true to each individual rider. This is a fun sport to watch and participate in. I myself was hooked the first time i had ridden a board and will be till I no longer can ride a board. Its been four weeks since I hit the waters at ski-rixen but this upcoming weekend I will be there in full force trying to practice shuvs.
Ps: I also met tons of riders on and off the forum and all them are awesome peoples. |

| bmr712, agreed all but #4. i think the day has passed where online print is no longer a good source for wakeskating media etc. as long as wesubsist puts out great original content, and features others, wakeskating publication can stay online in website form and i will be satisfied. |
