Call ridiculous winches. They have every part you will need. It will cost more, but buying from go kart places like most people do is hard if you don't know exactly what you need.(sprocket size, number of teeth, bearings, ect..) Ridiculous will tell you what you need. And someone on here had an ok looking frame for sale on eBay. That would be nice if you don't weld..

New Wakeskates sells winch parts now and they're reasonably priced, or at least cheaper than ridiculous winches. http://www.newwakeskatesstore.com/winch.aspx
Or you could just buy the whole winch from them for a grand.

there's so many winches for sale out there now, from $1000 basic ones to fancy $4000 electric ones - it may be getting to the point that unless you have some major component (like a motor) to start with that's free - its just as cheap to buy one from someone...

skewinbos, take a deep breath, annnd relax. It is going to be really difficult for you to build a winch on your own for the first time, especially if you do not know all the parts of a winch. They are very simple.

I don't want to discourage you though because you totally can build one on your own. Do some research for yourself instead of asking on here because a lot of people who could give you advice don't know anymore than you do.

A great starting point:

1. Frame/Frame design
2. Motor-6.5-8hp depending on your lbs.
3. TAV or Centrifugal Clutch
4. Keyed Axle
5. Sprocket
6. Spool
7. 600-1200ft of rope
8. 2 pillow block bearings to mount axle to frame
9. Fair lead rollers or some way to guide rope into the spool
10. Don't forget hubs so you attach your sprocket and your spool to your axle
11. A chain that matches up with the teeth on your TAV/CC and sprocket
Building a winch can get pretty expensive, I started building mine in the Spring time and I'm at a stand still on it. So far I've spent over $600 and its looking like before its done I'm gonna have to spend another couple of hundred. Its a hassle if your funding it yourself and doing all the work by yourself. I can't remember the gauge of the rope that was suggested to me or the ratio I'm using on my gearing. Good luck....your gonna need it.

I used these forums for help when I built my winch. Even if you don't post anything there's a lot of good ideas and frame designs to use or at least start your design.
