Wow Nick, I'm really jealous. You could completely erase wakeskating from the equation and your pictures and descriptions make it seem so fun and peaceful. I grew up on a large lake and there is nothing like experiencing the effect water has on us, especially when you can enjoy it in it's many non glassy, non ride-able forms. Kudos man, live it up. |

Fantastic post and bump. Your response wasn't overkill at all, IMO.
A few ?'s - How it do you shower/flush toilet etc? What are some of it's amenities that you just couldn't live without? Shower? Mini-stove?
Any technical love would be appreciated. _________________ Your mom is my favorite knee boarder. |

W, Shower is a 30 gallon drum that collects rainwater. I put a good amount of dish soap in there also, to keep it cleaner... The bathroom is located about 500 yards north, inside a waterfront restaurant that some family friends own. I could use the one onboard the ship with it's own storage tank and take it to shore every couple weeks and clean it out and whatnot, but I've chosen to never use it. A 20 second sea-doo ride is not as inconvenient as you might think.
The electric skillet is sweet, you can use it for just about anything... The fridge is nice because I eat anywhere from 2-7 bowls of cereal a day and I need to keep that milk nice and cold. I usually run it for a little less than an hour and freeze a few jugs of rainwater, then when I shut the power back off, I put the frozen jugs in the fridge and it keeps everything fridge temp for a few days...
The TV is good when you want to watch MTM or Aquafrolics before you go ride, or if you've got a girl over one night and she wants to watch a funny movie or Planet Earth... Both couches fold out into beds and there's 2 bunks in the captain's quarters. Underneath the futon couch, there's 5 or 6 good blankets and sleeping bags. I think the most we've had sleeping out there was around 20-25 (roof included )
If you've going to get a generator, this is the one. 8-12 hours per gallon and it's quieter than the average dinner conversation. With mine on the deck in it's box and the back door closed, you can't even barely feel the vibrations. When you are on the front porch or in the bedroom, you have no idea if it's on or off...
In all honesty, I wouldn't mind living out there without a skillet/fridge/tv/generator/electricity.
And now it's time for me to get back out there... I'll be back in a few days _________________ √

I like seeing dolphins and manatees when I go out on the back porch to do the dishes. I like laying in my hammock and closing my eyes to the bright sunlight and listening intently to all the different kinds of birds on the grassflats at low tide. Blue herons, white egrets, roseate spoonbills, seagulls, ospreys, pelicans, and the frigates way up high.. |

your place out in that fog is awesome man!
I've come to realize that it's going to be quite difficult to afford actual lake frontage in my area in my life. There is an island on our lake that has homes on it and there are several lots for sale at a fraction of what a mainland lot would be. I'm contemplating finding a way to get one and then working on something like this to keep at the dock. Along with a campsite, I think it'd be pretty cool until I had enough money to build a house out there. Not as a permanent residence or anything but just for a lake place. Then when I get the house someday, the boathouse becomes the guesthouse
seriously, awesome! yargh _________________ thrashdad.com |
