Wakeskate manufacturing…college styles

I’m making a wakeskate for next season while I’m away at school. I have a wakeskate…but I wanted to make one that I could completely trash without feeling guilty. Now this is the absolute worst way possible to make a wakeskate. Will it lose its rocker? Yep…prolly pretty quick. Will it have good pop?...nope. But will it be worth every cent of the 14.00 I paid to make it? Damn right! Here’s how I did it:

I work at a place that sells building materials. So I bought a piece of pre-laminated Russian birch select grade 9-ply plywood. I got it for free. I found some 2x4s in the basement of the house im living in…and I collected up 2 years with of university books…and three bags of water softening salt (44 pounds each) I took my birch plywood…used my grandfathers bandsaw to cut out the ruff shape, then I cleaned up the edges with a palm sanded. I brought the board to the place where I’m living…and I put a 2x4 at each end…and put the salt and all the textbooks on top of the board. And I left it in the bathroom. I thought maybe the steam from the shower might help to loosen the grain of the plywood. There is where the board shall sit until the summer. Then I will urethane the board with a can of sealant that my dad had lying around the garage. And I will take it to the local skateboard shop…where they will grip a wakeskate for the same price as a skateboard deck.

This is bound to be the worst board you have even seen or ridden…but it was practically free…and hopefully when I ride it, I will be more willing to beat the hell out of it and maybe even progress my riding. At least until it goes completely flat, or snaps, or something like that.

I took these pictures on a palm pilot that has no flash…in the dark…so they look like shizzle.

That is without a doubt the pimpest thing I have ever seen. You should keep making those for 14.00 each and sell them for some obscene price. Laughing

I've got it!

Beat 'em Up Wakeskates: Can't hit rails with that new $250 board? Are you tired of not having any fun because you just can't risk your precious skate? Well do we have a skate for you! BEAT EM UP WAKESKATES, they aren't the best, in fact, they will probably deteriorate and break after around two weeks, but who cares!? They're only 14.99! Never miss out on that rail again! Call 1-800-BEU-SK8S!

I did the same thing once. i even waited it down the same but i got to excited and didn't leave the wieght on there long enough and it didn't stay bent.... make sure you keep the wieght on it, and maybe think about getting some fiberglass rezin for the bottom that should make it good for rails and also help keep the shape.

Make it 9 months, then you can say you gave birth to a wakeskate.

The time has come!

The board has now been under weight since september...and i have to move out of the house that i am currently living in....so now is the time to act.

What should i do to make sure that i don't lose the rocker? keep in mind that the whole point of me making this deck was to do it a cheap as possible...
