Its all for "style" points. In wakeskating its become "cool" to ride in shirts and without a vest, and of course with board shorts over your full suit. People are now wearing sunglasses and hats and other things that are just completely unnecessary, also i cant imagine riding in cut off tight jean shorts or just basic denim jeans could be comfortable. Yes indeed it looks quite stylish, but is it at all functional? I noticed the whole trend of wearing a shirt and riding and i gave it a go, all it did was weigh me down more and it was just not comfortable. Like mentioned, its all for style and to look cool while on the water. Functionality > Looking Cool while doing something you love.

Look how cool i look!

wakemitch, awesome shot/spill/face hahaha.

I don't think boardshorts over a wetsuit is done to look cool. I think it's more about some sort of insecurity. (don't take that the wrong way!) Small package, leg issues, blah blah blah...

I never grew up surfing or anything and i just got a wetsuit a couple years ago and it just felt weird for me to wear without shorts. Made me feel like a was naked or something. I dont really care to much either way I just personally feel more comfortable wearing board shorts overtop. Also, its the only way everyone around me does it, so its the norm here.

totally about insecurity. i used to do the board short thing til i realized who cares. it's like peeing in a public bathroom. some go for the stalls, some go for the urinals, regardless of partitions. i personally go for the urinals. why pee in something you get to use all the time.

mojo, I never understood why some bathrooms don't have partitions between the urinals. I mean really, is it that expensive? Go buy some plywood and bolt it to the wall for all I care and spray paint it if you want it to look decent. Just so long as some old creeper don't be glancin' on muh junk Laughing

i agree. if i ever open a place w/ public urinals, or even an office, there will be partitions. anyone watch curb your enthusiasm? i mean im cool w/ my man hood, but i don't want possible homo's or even straight dudes taking a peek at my sausage

I used to do the boardies over wetsuit deal as it is a rule of fashion in our sports. especially in colder regions (compared to CA, FL, ...) where you'll be wearing your fullsuit for half of the season.
I quit though as swimming is a big part of the game (hence I only ride cable) and those shorts are fücking annoying when you're sporting thick neoprene beneath. also it's just another wet item to be hung up and taken with. so screw fashion Razz

I wear pants or shorts over my wet suit if i'm winching or hitting rails... It helps protect my wetsuit from getting holes in it from rocks or sticks..... Also it depends on if I forgot shorts or not! LOL

If I were a clothing manufacturer, and my company was sponsoring a wakeskater, I would want them to wear my clothing even if the rider was wearing a wetsuit. Especially if they were at a contest and they were being photographed, filmed, and hopefully on the podium....

I used to always go surfing with my friends with nothing but a wetsuit. Never really thought anything of it, till one of my friends was like "Dude, throw on some boardshorts and cover up". So its not insecurity for me, its a man law. Laughing
