Vince Whitemen posted this on the berrics blog and it needs to be brought to the attention of skaters.

Quote: | if you live in Canada and skate, you know West 49°, and if you had a local shop in your city, chances are that West 49° has run them out of business
if you don't know what I am talking about, West 49° is like Wal-Mart for skateboarding, except their shizzle is WAAAAAAAAAY overpriced. it seems that wherever they set up shop (every mall in every major city in Canada) they run the local skate shops out of business within a year or 2. My local shop (R.I.P. Breez Peterborough) lasted 6 years from the local skaters.
Anyways, I was in Markham, ON skating yesterday and needed new bearings. Unfortunately/Conveniently, West 49° is in the mall right across the road. so I rolled over to the store to grab some Reds. on the way up to the cashier my buddy noticed a "Berrics Runs Skating" shirt for sale, so I snapped a pic on my phone.
after that I noticed a Berrics zip hoodie behind it and was fiznackling ASTOUNDED by the price! EIGHTY fiznackling DOLLARS for a berrics sweater, could not believe it.
if the pics dont work or you wanna watch some skate videos check out my blog

Yeah, I was going to say the same thing: Zumiez. I think mail order can be just as bad, like with CCS and what not.
Anyway, whatever. You can't just blame one shop for putting other small shops out of business. There are also kids that are buying shizzle from them and there are SKATE COMPANIES that agree to sell to them. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |
