Just finished this tonight. I've never actually hit a rail on the water before. I wanted to make a rail easy to transport, since I'll be taking it in and out of the water every session, so I made it in to two pieces. The top is held together by the trex bolted on at the top, and the four legs unbolt so it can lay flat. A couple of minor adjustments were made to the legs from the original plans, but the dimensions are all there.

How long will it take for the pressure treated wood to rot? Will paint make any difference? Any ideas on how to get this beast in the water? I was thinking of assembling it out on the dock and then just tipping it over. I also have some concerns about legality; I plan to try it out on a public lake that gets pretty busy during the weekends. I don't want anyone to hit it with their boat or crack their head open trying to boardslide it and sue me.

I'll get some more pictures of it on the water over the weekend.

Moohaumed,

I have a box built with pressure treated wood that has been in the water for four years now and it hasn't rotted yet, so no worries there. Lookin good, how long is it? You'll have to hold that thing down with sandbags or cinder blocks right..

Just set it up like ten feet off the shoreline so there's no chance of anyone running into it.

Good to hear about the wood. It's 15 feet. I wasn't planning on using anything to anchor it, I think the legs will do the job. I got up on top of it and rocked it back and forth, seems sturdy enough.

it will float, i assure you. fill a few detergent buckets up with rocks or cement.

i built one similar, took it out without an anchor and floated. trust me.

Indeed it did.. I tied four pair cinder blocks together to hold it down and all was well. It's probably actually a good thing that it floats or it would've been a lot more difficult getting it out. It took about 15 minutes to get in and out. It held up great and a bunch of people came by and tried it for the first time. My buddy did a back lip on a wakeboard. I found it difficult to land on the skate, my foot would always end up hanging off and I would sink like a rock coming out. Can't wait to get my winch up and running so we can get a straight pull and try some frontside stuff.
