im so dissapointed. It makes wakeskating look like a side show at its own main event.
step up productions needs to get out of the scene. |

wakemitch, yeah that setup looked pretty sketchy... i dont know what they were thinking making everything so huge. there was no way anyone could try anything new. everyone was struggling to get their stock tricks landed
on the bright side, i have fuel tv now and i can actully watch cool stuff on tv _________________ http://www.stickandflick.com

I felt the same way. I remember the setup at TJ#4 was built by Nike and I remember saying that Nike should always build the winch pools because they seem to know whats up. Then someone said to me that we have to remember that this is the best of the best of wakeskating. And the reason the obstacles are so gnarly and difficult is because these guys are supposed to be pros and have that steeze to handle any kind of situation. I guess its all how you look at it tho. _________________ http://www.wakeskateclips.com/ |

Lollar, I can see your point about how gnarly obstacles can showcase better riding, but that's what turns me off to thigns like the x-games.
To me, things like that represent our sports as stunts and not something legitimate that could be as big if not bigger than the sports you see every day on TV.
Making the rails/pool gnarlier does nothing for the sport, it just makes the level of riding decrease and turns it in to a stunt show. Wakeskating is a very technical sport where riding speaks for itself.
Why do you think they support the Mega Ramp at X-Games? It turns heads, gets people who normally wouldn't watch to keep that channel on and buy their ads. What has this done for skateboarding as a sport? Not much. It makes people regress to 360's and huge grabs and while it takes amazing ability to do that sort of thing on that level, it's really not progressing the sport for the everyday rider.
*Disclaimer: I realize that you're just looking at both sides of the issue and that you agree that the setup was too gnarly
(Then again, I have a HUGE problem with even just the terms 'extreme sports' and 'action sports' ) |
