Very well. I use 3x5 landscape timbers for the supports.. usually they are $4 at Home Depot but sometimes on sale for $2

built one the same way with 4x4s. it was sick until wildlife and fisheries made us tear it down.

mr.foonis, That's a terrible design...
You put the shark at the end of the rail and the treasure at the beginning. I recommend you switch them. That way, if you fall off the end of the rail, you will land in treasure and not shark.

i would go for the tnt or different supports if you're leaving it in the water. but my TNT got stolen last winter from the island we had it hid on

when and if I put another rail on lanier, i will do the tnt style again but i will set a set of short anchor pipes that have a larger id than the od of the riser pipes so you can simply slide the rail into the anchors for use and remove to keep dnr from their usuial theivery. the anchor pipes will prob need some type of cap though to keep the silt from building up in them. just some food for thought.

Fryguy, that sounds like a pretty good idea. the only thing i would worry about is the way the water level of the lake goes up and down, especially since there is a new fight for water going on with the corp of engineers, but if you took them out at the end of the season i could see that going very well
