Could i use a lawnmower engine it has 17 hp
here is the info on the engine for a winch.

http://www.craftsman.com/shc/s/p_10155_12602_07128903000P?vName=Lawn+%26+Garden&cName=Lawn+Mowers+%26+Tractors&sName=Lawn+Tractors

I was thinking of using the engine and get a frame for it and maybe the right stuff. Please tell me what i will need for it to work if it can.

i dont think so, if you did use that motor, the gearing would have to pretty solid. usually you would use a horizontal shaft, but if you think of a way.....it would be a beast.

maybe, try putting the spool vertical instead of horizontal, but would need a smaller spool so it pull in tighter.

wakeskater123, i think its possible with the right design... have some time of temporary/removable spool setup. it would be badass to have a riding winch/mower.
