I loved the SST from the first day I rode it... Then it started disintegrating more every ride.

This led to a cunning plan...

Enter epoxy, fiberglass cloth, a lot of swearing and a newly won respect for anyone who makes anything out of fiberglass Very Happy

I am halfway through now and watching epoxy dry is BORING! I'm off to the lake for a bit of a skate Exclamation

Gnarly Dancer 42,

Solid man! I would recommend it for any wood board repairs- it's cheap too, like ten bucks at Pep Boys.. going to fill all the cracks in my 4 trac with it next Cool

Did it change the ride at all? How did it hold up?

sparrow.2, it made it like a pound heavier

mine actually ended up pealing off after a few weeks, but thats because i fiberglassed over some paint that was still on the board. i think you should be fine though, just make sure to do a good job drilling out the holes. i probably would have drilled the holes before gluing the cloth, but i think yours will work as long as you used enough glue

CHINA! yea wait till u start sanding it out then glass is a blast!. if you put a thick coat of epoxy on it the sanding process becomes less itchy and you will have better results. good luck!

Fiberglass repair isn't really that hard if you know how to do it right, and when it's done right, the results look sick! I found the best way to remove any and all air bubbles is to use a large paint scraper (a ruler also works) and work from the center outward.

As far as the itch factor goes- I just wear a long sleeve t-shirt and an apron, and I haven't had too many issues.

Also, if you do it right, you can actually preserve stickers underneath, but it takes a lot of fine sanding so you can actually see them ha.

I rode my freinds composite 42" the other day, have to say it's the first bi-level style board I have liked since the OG cassettes, only time will tell how durable these are.

Project finished and it's perfect! Two days over obstacles haven't done a thing to the board and it hasn't changed the ride much. It has made it better if anything! Weighs as much as it did when it was badly waterlogged but that's kind of a good thing Very Happy

I'll get pics up tomorrow...

Even sanding it was kind of fun Smash

Hey Dude Very Happy

Good to hear your gonna be coming for a bit of a ride!

Here are some pics! Seems to be holding up really well on obstacles and it didn't fall to bits like The Dude predicted Laughing

did you wrap the fiberglass all the way to the top of the wood deck or did you just do the bottom and edges? and about how much did this cost all in all?

I did the sides of the board with a 2 inch strip first, then did the bottom overlapping the edges again so that it covered about an inch of the top as well. Let that dry and then glassed the top over the overlap. (basically the way you glass a surfboard too...)

All in all the whole thing cost me about 40€, which is about 50-60$. Well worth it for an SST that doesn't waterlog anymore and pop like sh*t Very Happy
