Grey Market Cameras?

So my girlfriend bought this camera off ebay.

Well after doing some reasearch after we bought it. i started thinking about
how no where on there does it say nikon usa. i messaged the seller and they said all the products are usa products. i searched a camera forum and found
a thread talking about this seller selling grey market cameras

What is a grey market camera? a camera that is made for sale in places like mexico china etc.. NIKON USA will not warranty any product that was not made to be sold in USA.

What should we do if it the camera feels the same and is the same without the NIKON USA warranty. I wish I would of figured this out before buying it

grey market nikons are manufactured in China NOT japan. So nikon does not warranty them. Grey market items have a cheaper build quality and thus they are less expensive, making the consumer attracted to the lower price.

See if you can cancel the transaction and go buy the camera for 10 bucks more from B&H or Adorama or another TRUSTED website that isn't a scam artist. You won't get all those extra filters or lens cap holders but all that crap is seriously junk anyways.

yea i looked at it and as soon as i picked it up i could tell because it was so light and of course it said made in THAILAND. it was obvious Mad

im sooo mad!
So i guess Best Buy is where im going after i get my refund!

Just buy the same camera at Best Buy and then return the grey market one there using your reciept. Problem solved. Twisted Evil

i already shipped it back so i can get my refund asap before the exchange policy runs up in 7 days!

Once i get the money back *who knows when* im gona go get it!
So now i gota wait as a punishment for being so stupid and not buying it at Best Buy in the first place Embarassed

the D40 is perfectly fine though. It takes awesome pictures, youll love it for sure.

Is it a big difference?
like really good?
Because i spent like 480 on the other one and im getting that back and then i had to pay a butt load just to ship it back so im trying to watch the money lol

What would you recommend?
Im more so beginner.. deff wana get into it tho and want good quality.

Is the only main difference the megapixels???
Because i no the 10 would be better with larger works but if that the only reason its better idk if i should spend the money on that one right now..

ButterLicious, not a HUGE difference. But there is a notible difference.

there are differences you probalby wont understand lol like iso, shutter sync speed and a few other things. But I'd say if you are really watching your money go with the D40. The D40x can take 3 fps instaed of the D40's 2.5.

On the other hand tho.. Which is clearly better out of the d40 and cannon rebel??

Now im kinda thinking ahh which one even tho the Rebel is wayy more expensive
but i might be able to get a good deal on a rarley used good condition one.

Opinions??
