Well said electricsnow...

Now, what is Hyperlite going to do if this board revolutionizes wakeskating? I mean, wakeskating is getting pretty big now and is taking off on it's own. With this new design, a lot more possibilities may open up when it comes to learning/creating new tricks. In turn, this will bring a lot of the skeptics into wakeskating. Hyperlite will miss this boat and Cassette will be back on top. I'm not sure of the specifics of the Cassette's new design, but I'm sure it's been patented. Will Hyperlite have to pay Cassette a licensing fee to use the technology (does Hyperlite pay Vans for the Boa technology in their bindings?)? Is there a way they can create a similar board without infringing on the patent?

Also, from what I've read, the only product rumblings coming out of Hyperlite are a new fin for "locking in" on noseslides - wasn't that what the 4-trac did a few years ago?

Forgive me if i'm rambling on but i'm at work and am trying to get this out quickly...

Brandon Thomas and Daniel Lovett both ride the Gate. They may not be pros in the technical sense yet, but nonetheless, they kill it. I do think that electricsnow is right on with her definition of a gimmick. I'm keeping an open mind the bi-level. However, I will say this. At the very least, both Cassette and Hyperlite (and Kampus, I guess) have their own original designs. You may not like the Hyperlite designs, and that's your choice. But, at least they don't blindly mimic Cassette (*AHEM* 484 and LF).

Does Kampus have an "original design"?!??? You must be joking! Their design looks middle-age...... Thomas is killing it, both on and off the water! Smash He's always been ahead of the others with both designs/shapes as well as his riding... A few people may consider Brandon Thomas as a pretty good rider but hello livewirelp, wake up, he doesn't "kill it"! I hope that Cassette hasn't patented their bi-level designs so that we hopefully can see a Hyperlite Bi-Level next year that you can nollie off a double up with!
Keep it real, Cassette 4 life Exclamation

you're kind of missing my point. Both cassette and hyperlite are great companies in my mind because they both at least have their own designs, for better or worse. It's the copycat companies that really grate me.

livewirelp, I agree, and Brandon Thomas DOES kill it, can't really defend lovett, I mean he's good, but far from killing it, as far as nollies on the gate, I have been trying them for a while now, and I can feel that the possibility is there, but ironically the only two riders that I think have the raw ability, or finnesse to pull it off, are Danny Hampson, and Thomas, kind of ironic, but yeah the nollie D-up state ment is totally bulljive

Rob, they took the risk of being called elementary and "middle-aged" to create their own designs. i ride a k39 and its definitely the simplest deck out there, but who said it had to be complex to work? i have little or no respect for the companies that blatently copy cassettes. my 2¢

cfxomega, a patent application has been filed on behalf of cassette for this design. It's the first design they've ever patented...

Anyway, if hype liked the design, they would have to pay to use it. I don't know if they pay vans for the boa or not...I don't pay too much attention to wakeboarding anymore. I dont' know what the specifics are on the boa patent, I don't know if hyperlite changed something so they could use it without paying soooo...

And you're right about that fin thing. What I heard was that byerly was going to have his own version of a 4 trac, so we'll see what actually comes from that rumor. But basically, a durable fin (or a nosesliding fin) isn't anything new (think kampus, cassette). In my opinion, hyperlite has already fallen behind. But that's just me, and maybe someday they'll prove me wrong. But it doesn't look like that will be happening any time soon...they're too worried about what others are doing (seriously).

And in my opinion, kampus is an original company as well. Their desings are different, as is their production technology. Every other wooden concave is milled wood, but the kampus decks are pressed and they look like an oversized skateboard. My skate shop is a huge fan of that shape, actually. They're simple, yet sufficient.

But after this new cassette was released, I really started to wonder what other companies would do to keep the progression going...so the future for wakeskate design looks interesting from here...

Yeah, it's interesting to see what the future holds for sure, but I still doesn't think Kampus have "original designs" just because their decks are "pressed and look like oversized skateboards." But at least they don't copy any other company... If there's someone besides Cassette who would get some cred for shapes/designs, I think Schmaltz/Integrity is first runner up! The Integrity shape looks sick! (haven't had a chance to try it though) Hyperlite is digging their own wakeskate-grave with their "nose-slide fins", pathetic..... And kento911, Allright, Brandon Thomas kills it with his bad-ass manuals...... (dope as hell, sickest trick around!) Crazy Eyes

i don't have a scanner.

it also has the bottoms of all the new hyperlite boards, and yea they look to be the exact same boards as the '04. only difference i noticed was that Byerly's channel was narrow. but other than that, gate, grubb, and byerly boards looked like there wasn't much change besides the graphics.
