I wonder if the "flexy" deck will be on the top or bottom?
and i wonder if the deck on the bottom will be shorter than the top deck to allow "locking in" on nose/tail slides...similar to a burton snowskate

I'm not a fan of the gate but how is this a revolutionary design and the gate was just a gimmick.

thomas was first to put grip tape on wakeskates
thomas was first to make a concave wakeskate
thomas was first to make asymetrical wakeskates

i think this guy knows whats up...all of his other ideas have made wakeskating what it is today!

Okay, I've been thinking about this...

Okay, I don't think it would work if you ollie just like we currently are. At the end of the day, the bottom deck is still going to have to push into the water just like current single decks do. However....

What if the extra leverage simply lets you create an enormous normal force against your front foot, letting you drag up on the grip tape and the friction lifts the board? Think skateboard ollie. I could see how, if you changed your ollie, this might give you more pop.

freerider4, I understood what you said wrong my bad Razz tought you were saying saying that those 05 cassette where no more a revolution in design than the gate heh

livewirelp, I think so too... it's all in the leverage created by this bi level thing as Cassette said.

When I first wakeskated I tried to do my ollies like on a sk8 but it didn't work out... After watching some video I understood that you kinda had to slam your front foot first to get the board deeper in water so then it releases higher when you jump off from your back foot. Then you just suck both legs up as the board will be coming up. The higher you jump/suck up your legs, the higher the ollie.

it just doesn't feel like the same movement on a skate.

Maybe that with this new Bi-Level thing we'll be able to snap ollies like in skate, using your front foot to level the board in the air.

me... needs... pics... videos... something!!! :drools: Embarassed

Guys the boards are sick, I am excited to ride one also I hope to have my samples in September. Thomas said the compression is the key the amount of force given to the water is multiplied when it snaps back.

when i first read about the bi-levels i instantly became super excited. it wasn't until the analogy to the tweezers that my hopes slowly fell. i undertand what was said and how it would work but 99.9% of all tweezers will slowly start to lose there's spring and wont go back to their original position, after time respectively.
im not saying that it wont work, anything that thomas and those guys come up with will be revolutionary, maybe it wont be entirely like tweezers...lets hope. Very Happy

Editor of WBM, Kevin Michael, emailed me today and said that he wrote a short piece about an experience he had on the Bi-Level deck. He gives a little more information about the deck and how it feels.

Dudes this sounds awesome

definatly have to get a try on one of these things
alot of the examples that have been thought up have made my view on these things a little easier
i was wondering though don't get me wrong i love cassette sickest boards. But what if this bi level is just as much as a gimmick as the gate will cassette get the shizzle that hype got

The difference is Cassette's pros will be riding their bi-levels...the Gate never became a pro favorite for Hype

If the bi-level doesn't do what it has been claimed to do, then it would be a gimmic. Kind of like how hyperlite tried to claim nollies off of the double up from their gate, or just nollies for that matter, on their gate. I've never heard of a legit nollie coming from that gate (meaning it wasn't shifted to the side and then popped, because you can do that on a regular wakeskate). And that is what makes the gate gimmicky.

The definition of gimmick: A significant feature that is obscured, misrepresented, or not readily evident; a catch.

However, after seeing what thomas has created over the years, I don't believe that will be the case at all and I fully support this new deck. It seems like thomas has a knack for developing stuff like this...and he sincerely cares about what he comes out with and when it's released...he's incredibly insightful. (Again, if you can, read thomas' interview in paco's wakeskating book.) He's one of the few people I'd trust as far as his passion for wakeskating and his wakeskate designs are concerned.

What's funny to me is that the 4-trac was cassette's big deck for a couple of years, and now that they're coming out with something new, other companies are releasing their version of the 4-trac, and that's supposed to be their amazing design. Does that make sense? Anyway, I think that says a lot.

Oh, I also agree with cfxomega. And I think that says a lot too (his comment, I mean).
