So I tested it this weekend an it worked FLAWLESSLY! It deep water started me (185 lbs) from 800 ft! My rope didn't kick up too much water so I think I will put off a splash guard for a while. The rope did jerk a little so I want to something about that. probably take the spacers out between the rim. And I just took the belt off while swimming the rope out (until I cut open my thumb on the driven pulley )
Walking the rope wasn't too bad.
Is it bad for the belt to pull it off every time?

| What are the white things that you used on your spool, and how did you attach the grinding wheels to them?

the white bars is electrical conduit that was welded to the rim and painted white. The spool sides are held in place by the hub holding a sprocket and a collar wedging them together.
does that make sence?

Nice winch. Design is similar to mine. Ive added a tav since this photo and was wondering about a releasing spool. Dont think its necesarry just yet.

how wide is it? I like that chain tensioner!
Rugrat, I dont know yet if I would recommend it. its not as solid as I wanted it to be.

| what about a chain with a masterlink instead of having a detaching spool? just take out the masterlink if you need to swim the line out? would that work? or would that throw off the chain tension too much?

You can do that but its just more of a pain compared to a releasing spool.

| coricluster, the only time it was difficult to pull the rope out was if you were swimming the rope out. Im that case we had whoever was operating the winch just pull the rope out by hand and that worked well.

It was 500mm (20 inches) but I had too modify it to fit the tav so I made it smaller. Its now 380 mm (15 inches)

| Cheers. Havn't tried it with the Tav on. It used to pull sweet with the clutch but no deep water starts. Hopefully it will now. Unfortunately its getting a bit cold here (Australia) so might get its first run on the snow.
