Anything you can buy from sony jvc or panasonic is a great beginner just go to future shop or best buy or some average electronics store. I started with my parents hand-held camcorder.

deifinately get a 3 chippa. panasonic have brought out some cheap ones, i think the panasonic pv-gs70 or pv-gs200. but i'd personally go for a 2nd hand sony vx1000.

Janky... the topic IS video cameras... so he is probably looking for a digital video camera. In which case, miniDVs are reasonable. I personally have a Sony miniDV and I think its great, it get's the job done. Now all I have to do is get a housing for it... HMmmmm

i'm a fan of panasonic's DVX-100. its has unreal quality and everything can be set to manual so you can produce some really professional shaz. just make sure when your purchasing this bad boy that you DO get the auto-focus option. havin to deal with the focus while doing chase cam is a serious pain.

I think it's pretty clear that the DVX-100 isn't a beginner digital camera.
But I do agree that it is the sh*t. It was a joy to use when we had one rented for a few days.

A sony mini-dv, the TRV series is good like the trv 22, or any other Trv series is good. Or, Canon Optura 10/20 is a good cam, lots of manual controls. Alos, the Canon ZR series is a good choice, again, lots of manual controls.
