i'm gonna build a rail and the only thing i am questioning now is how to put it in the ground. the thing is i dont live where there is sand its all nasty black muck! its really soft and squishy. anyone have any tips on how to keep it stable. from moving side to side etc

you could try to float it................I have the same problem on my lake..........half of the bottom is sand and in some parts it's muck...........try to make the frame sink into the muck as much as you can so the frame doesnt slide around when you hit it

1x6 pressure treated, we used 1x6 because it's easy to bend like that.. and then Azek board on top of that, I think the Azek is like 9 inches wide
Tide rises and falls up to 4 feet

you can build one using galvanized piping for supports, you just need some threaded pipe, 8 foot or so sections each, and flanges, then you can make a flat bar, incline, whatever you want using 2 by 6's and decking material on top. there's a link around here somewhere. i'm sure after there's some harder stuff under all that muck, you just need some longer supports to reach it.

EJazzle, if your parents are cool with having rails in your yard ill set up an entire park there. you have alot more possibilities then you think.
