I prefer griptape. Awhile back I had tried out the old wooden hype concaves with the foam and the thing I didn't like was how the foam kind of absorbed the concave...you know, so the concave wasn't as extreme. I prefered the feeling of the cassette concave much more than the hype foam concave.

I like griptape better because of the "solid" feeling, foam just feels too soft under the feet. If there was a really hard kind of foam, maybe more like rubber, I would be willing to try that. I've been krugered many a time by my grip.

I used to ride cassettes, and was fully into griptape having come from a skateboarding background. Then I started getting sorted out with boards from a local shop and they wanted me to ride a Hyperlite, so I went over to foam deck. It didn't really feel as good at first, but I'm really used to it now. I think it's just what you get used to.

P.S. Definately stoked on the Gate, amazing board!

I prefer grip, just feels better. I have ridden a catalyst and the foam wasn't to bad, but you can feel the space that the foam creates between your feet and the boad and I didn't care for it.
Plus, I'm a skateboarder.

Grip! I tried the gate not to long ago and didn't like how I couldn't move my feet back into position as fast after shuvs(too sticky). It also felt like the foam would float the board off my feet on w2w stuff, this could have been the weight of the board though.

Grip tape. For the reasons above, absorbs concave, and some of the snap. I'm not a good wakeskater, but I prefere the feel of grip. That rubber idea does sound good though, I think Kampus has it, and it seemed good.

I definitely like grip tape, but I just started riding a butter skate, and I like the foam top. It may depend on the shoes you're wearing, but this foam feels like it has about the same grip as griptape. Oh, and it doesn't sqeak. So i don't know. I could go either way, but the foam would have to be good stuff--not like some of the other companies out there...

I'm all about the foam.Used to ride grip, always been a skateboarder, thought I would hate the foam.Turns out I love it.Never tried Hype's foam but Cassette's and old Mutiny's foam rocks.More than grippy enough,a little padding, never heard it squeak and it doesn't thrash everything with the griptape. It will last a hell of alot longer too.
You know how some people say wood and water don't mix well I think grip and water don't mix Wink .We don't put grip on our surfboards but we would put foam...
