all homemade winches that i've ever seen, and heard people talk about has that problem. it's just a small downfall to not having professional maunfactured and engineered parts.

a rope tensioner could work, but you'd have to find a way to get it to function right with-out it taking away some of the torque on the rope for pulling.

i'm thinking a big arm, (behind the fairlead rollers but in front of the spool), that has a ring that the rope travels thru... and the arm would need to be spring weighted , just a few pounds, and then as there is tension from a rider the arm would be pulled up and sit straight in line with the rope, and when a quick section of slack comes up (like from doin a trick, cutting out, falling, etc...) the spring weighted arm would pull the rope and slack down giving the spool the time to catch up and therefore preventing the large loops of slack.

it works in my head. Rolling Eyes

Just curious, what parts (besides the frame) are any different from the parts on most of the homemade winches including yours and mine. Your idea works in my head too so give'r and let us know how it turns out. its not a big enough problem to worry about for me.

A bigger problem I'm having is the rope is so heavy that it sits on the water during long pulls and it makes the pull very jerky sometimes. The only fix that I can see is lighter rope, but then I'm spending more moeny and sacrificing durability.

JB

BTW I had a sick winch sesh at the beach last night. We rode during the sunset then took a few pulls after dark....it was sick.

JB_CANSKATE, nice. the only other parts i can think would be different is spool (not sure if that makes any difference) hand throttle, and a brake. (i don't have either)

my rope drags on long pulls too. oh well. it's not real jerky but some times i get jerked around a bit.... are you using a TAV? or CC?

i heart night winching Cool

t-Rex, TAV. Honestly it hasn't really bothered me too much but my girlfriend and some of my buddies who are really light complain about it more.
