THats the same engine I have. I just took my first one back because after a good bit of shredding(guessing 30hrs+) the thing lost compression. I got a replacement and after 4 hours of riding with it the first day it lost power aswell. I havn't tried it again since then becuase I've been busy but hopefully thursday I will and I'll elt you know what happens.

OYu could be lucky but I'd recomend gewtting something better in if you can afford it.

I have a 6.5 Honda Knock-Off with a Stage One HP Kit that I am no longer using. If anyone is interested, PM me. I am a little heavier so I went with a larger engine for an easier pull. However, from what I'm hearing from others, this engine tuned properly is fully capable of pulling anyone PERIOD. I will be fair with the pricing. I bought the engine brand new 3 mos ago for $230 and the stage one kit cost $90. I wont' worry about the little parts I used to make the direct throttle. MAKE ME AN OFFER.

your question was will it work and the answer is yes but only after many many headaches trying the get the gearing just right... deep water starts are pretty much out of the question... if you want a good pull and deep water starts i would suggest a minimum of 6.5 like urinal mint said... but if you already have the 5 horse and just want it to work than i say go for it...

and talk to laxitives288... he made a homemade winch with a 5 horse so he should have the right gearing for you... and he also only spent about 200 bucks i believe on his whole winch
