We have this mini bike type thing that we took the engine off of and it looks like it has some sort of torque converter on it. I know its not a comet tav 2 because its not belt driven but im pretty sure its a torque converter. Do you guys think it is?? And if it is would it be possible to use the sprocket pictured?? Its only 50 tooth though. Heres the pictures of it.

What you have there is sadly not a torque converter. It is a reduction gear setup, so theat you can run smaller sprockets on the minibike rear wheel.

The good news is that you can lose all the intermediary gears and just hook up the centrifugal clutch to your axle sprocket, so long as you can get sprockets to fit your type of chain and tooth shape of the CC.

Is the engine 160CC or 200CC?

sparrow.2, i want to run a torque converter on this engine. Its a 5.5 hp jiangdong or something haha. But would i just remove the reduction gear setup and put a tav 2 in its place?? I was thinking of running a 60 tooth sprocket with a #35 chain or do you think a 72 tooth sprocket would be better??

Take the CC off and measure the output shaft on the engine. If its 3/4" you're good for a TAV. I'm not sure but I think most people runnin TAV's run 60 tooth sprockets, go check on winchskating.com or wakeboarding-winch.com to make sure.

you might also want to do the restrictor mod that is in the second forum I mentioned Wink

JB_CANSKATE, yeah you can get them for both. But we measured it and its 3/4 so thats the one we'd need. The only thing now is we were trying to get it to start and the starter rope or whatever just snapped. It was old and like shiznackle so it broke.........were thinking about just canning this motor because we dont know if it will even start and its old and it had so many old stripped bolts. Its a cheap motor. Any suggestions?

take off the pull start and try to start it with a drill... or just take a rope and tie a stick to the end of it for a handle and manually wrap the rope and pull it that way...

on our knock off engines the pull start always broke and we pull started it by hand every time

see no pull start...
