I have heard that the Pro tour next year isn't goin to have a wakeskate divison, Just strictly wakeboard. Now I have only heard this and I am not claiming it true, Just asking if anyone can verify it true or false
Thanks _________________ RIDE FOR THE LOVE OF THE SPORT

I have not heard if Sea-Doo is pulling out. But trust me when I say if they do not sponsor the Pro tour, they have some money to put in other wakeskate events. I have talked a few times with the people in marketing about were they need to focus in the future for wakeskating. And they see the direction it is headed. So sit tight, If they dont sponsor the pro tour, they will still be around.

tahoe,
I did hear toe jam was doing like Orlando, Texas and then finals In cali somewhere.
CanadianRipper,
If sea doo is pulling out then it should be pulled with a boat so that there will be wake 2 wake stuff also on the tour.
Well I guess we will see what happens _________________ RIDE FOR THE LOVE OF THE SPORT

Coverage is a tricky little beast. You can have wakeskating at the PWT, but remember that the primary reason why people go to the PWT is to see wakeboarding. Now it's always nice to see a wakeboarder go to a wakeboarding event and then be stoked on watching wakeskating for the first time, but I think companies whose target audience is wakeskaters will wanna advertise at events that are watched by wakeskaters. We'll have to see what happens i guess.
But yeah, I'd definitely be stoked to see if Sea Doo (and more companies in the future) decide to invest money in just the wakeskating side of things. _________________ facebook.com/TheLiquidPlayground

Without going too far into it, wakeskating was lucky it was even on tour this year...
anyway, I don't think anyone thinks the tour is the future...they've never even claimed they were hot shizzle (the tour people). In fact, they were the ones who actually said that the competition arena would never be the pulse of the sport when it comes to wakeskating. Obviously, consistency has improved and comps are looking better (especially when you see reed hansen land a tre flip and a big flip on freaking television)...but ultimately, the tour not only gave the wakeskaters a place to be and something to be a part of, but it also gives a few riders out there the chance to earn some dough and not have to work some shiznackle pizza delivery jahb (or whatever it is they may do). And a number of today's well-known riders made a name for themselves on tour.
From the perspective of a fan, I was also happy (and still am) to see it on tv, considering that when wakeskating joined the tour in 03, there were probably two wakeskate specific videos out there. And that exposure will introduce some people to the sport. It may not touch everyone, but you don't really have to do that...just touch the right people...
and realistically, think back to what comps wakeskating had before the pro tour, and where wakeskating was at before 2003...wakeskating has come a long way in those three years, and an especially long way from the pre-pro tour exposure.
anyway, seadoo did some great stuff when they were with cassette, and from what I can tell, they've been a huge supporter of wakeskating. Nice work, seadoo...
and obviously, it was a huge deal when byerly started up his toe jam in 04...more wakeskating coverage on tv, and obviously the focus IS the multifaceted nature of wakeskating. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

i love the way the sport is goin right now.
lets see u got the hippodrome, brings a ton of underground names to one place and shows people u dont have to have a big name to be the best. look at drew, he won that. gave me some confidence to ride in toe jam next year for sure.
then u got toe jam. cant say much about that except it probably is the best wakeskate comp out there.... |

ya those comps are doing a greater good for the sport lol
its pretty sweet here in Ontario, the comps always have the same wakeboarders that they've had for the past couple years and everybody likes to watch the wakeskating more now, like thats what draws the crowd to the small ontario contests now. |

I agree with Pirate and I think that wakeboarding is the new mid-life crisis in this country...you go to the lake and every freaking boat has wakeboards on the rack....most of them going down the road like that but anywho I personally would rather have wakeskate specific events like the the hippodrome, I went to it this year and it was one of the funnest things ive ever done. There is no way wakeskating will ever turn into was wakeboarding has today in my opinion, its too hard for the average person to do, 4 out of 5 people have no freaking clue what it is anyways, and the people who are pushing the sports are jumping leaps and bounds every year. long live wakeskating we don't need pro tour. |

give it ten years and see where wakeskating ends up. Everyone praises the aspect of "accessibility" when it comes to wakeskating. Wouldn't you think that would give it the potential to grow larger than wakeboarding and therefore, would have a wide variety of "characters" involved, some of which may be (ahem) "less desirable"? You have those "scenesters" in every boardsport nowadays. If wakeskating continues to grow, there's nothing keeping it immune from that.
Wakeboarding was once at the point where everyone I met said "what's wakeboarding?" ... _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |
